About the Race
Government Peak Climb is a fundraiser for the Colony High School XC Ski Team with support from the Mat-Su Ski Club. It started in 2007, as a small uphill only race that started at Mountain Streams B & B, and climbed 3700ft over 2.90miles to the top of Government Peak. Since then it has moved the start to the Government Peak Rec Area Main Parking lot and Stadium. For the 2021 race, there has been the addition of the Uphill and Downhill race, along with still having the Uphill only option too. Uphill Only Distance 2.90miles 3700ft elevation gain Uphill and Downhill Distance 6.75miles |

The Government Peak Climb is a part of the AMR Grand Prix, and this year with the addition of the Uphill and Downhil race.
AMR has decided that: The AMR Grand Prix points race for Govt Peak is now the Up-and-Down Race. However, for age groups 60-69, 70-79 and 17-and-under, we'll score both races. And to qualify for the Gamut, racers will get credit even if they do Uphill only.

Course Description
Wave Starts based on Estimated finish time
The first 400m is on a mix of xc ski trail (30ft wide) and single track trail.
It then becomes a single track trail that rolls uphill until Mile 1, where then it starts to "gently" climb in alpine fields of fireweed.
At 1.65 miles you reach the aid station and it starts to climb aggressively towards the top.
At mile 2.25 you reach the "ridge line" that will take you to the top. If you glance up you will see the top, but you are not quite there.
For the next 1.5 miles you climb the "ridge line".
The uphill only race will finish at the "repeater station",
The uphill and downhill race with proceed to follow the east ridge down towards Blueberry Knoll..
Upon reaching the Blueberry Knoll trail you will follow it down to the first xc ski trail crossing, which then you will follow the ski trail straight down until the XC Ski Terrain park, which you will take a right and proceed to the Blueberry knoll trail crossing, and jump back on the trail and race to the finish where the you started!
